Unit 3 Assignment – The Communications Package
Weight: 25%
Due Date: December 6, 2025 23:59
Description:
You have completed a Policy Brief with quality research that people need to know about! What is the best way to share your ideas and arguments?
This assignment is about knowledge mobilization and exploring how the Core Messages from your policy brief can be re-packaged and targeted to different audiences using different modalities or types of communication (Images, Text, Social Media, and Speech).
To do this, you will develop a simple communication planning document and produce 3 unique communication documents targeting different audiences (details below). All your material will be based on the content from your Policy Brief. Your challenge is to re-package that material in interesting ways using different modes of communication.
This assignment contains 4 parts:
- Communication Planning Document – Using the template provided below, you will develop a strategy for presenting core messages from your research to specific audiences tailored to each of the 3 communication documents (Infographic, Presentation Slides, LinkedIn Blog post,).
- Infographic Fact Sheet – An image-based fact sheet is a versatile tool – it can be distributed as a handout at a conference or presented on an organization’s website. Use Piktochart or another tool of your choice to tell a cohesive visual story that communicates key findings from your Policy Brief to a specific audience. The fact sheet includes some visual representation of data, as well as other considered and effective visual design elements (such as icons, flowcharts, images, shapes, colour) to reinforce a cohesive message for the designated audience. Additional details and requirements will be made available.
- Slide Deck Video– Often representatives from organizations are invited to share their research at public or industry gatherings or put them online for others to access. Using a Slide deck tool of your choice (i.e., PowerPoint, Google Slides) – produce 3 cohesive slides that combine visuals, text, and voice to communicate the core message from your Policy Brief to a specific audience. Using the Kaltura Media tool or another of your choice, make a video of these slides with a voice-over presentation. Additional details and requirements will be made available.
- Blog Post – Reach your network. Write/Design 1 short blog post for LinkedIn teasing the content of your Policy Brief for a professional network aligned with the context of your policy brief; the idea is that this would be used to capture audience attention and drive viewers to your full Policy Brief. Additional details and requirements will be made available.
This might seem like a lot but remember you will already have your core content. The focus here is on the strategic design of materials. Your task is to figure out how to define a specific audience and shape messages for those audiences using the unique features of each type of communication.
